Tracing TIGRA and 1800-LFC from Concept to Stage

Power, Weight, and the Evolving PANTHER Legacy

When Meyer Sound set out to develop TIGRA and 1800‑LFC, the goal was straightforward: Bring the cutting-edge technologies introduced in PANTHER to new footprints. Here, the team behind the new line array loudspeaker and subwoofer—founders John and Helen Meyer, Senior Director of Product Management Andy Davies, and Senior Engineering Director of Loudspeaker Development Katie Murphy Khulusi—shares their origin story.

“TIGRA is about a continuation of what we started with PANTHER,” says Davies. “What we wanted to do is take all of that performance and scale it for venues that are a bit smaller, that need more flexibility, and that need more options around the size of their array.” Weight, John Meyer explains, was a defining priority, particularly for older houses and venues with limited hanging capacity. Murphy Khulusi frames technology development around delivering top-of-the-line performance and newest technologies in a versatile package. Onboard GEN‑1 processing brings Galileo GALAXY DSP inside the loudspeaker itself, eliminating the need for outboard DSP—and with it, much of the complexity that once limited where and how a system could be deployed. The result is a line array and companion low-frequency control element that work equally well across rental, touring, corporate, theater, performing arts, and house of worship applications.

Helen Meyer’s enthusiasm matches the moment: “I am really excited about the new line array and the sub,” she says. “It’s going to be compact, lightweight, easy to use, and I think it’s going to hit the market and people are going to love it.” The first deployments include appearances at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland this summer. “We are looking forward to seeing it in its full glory,” Meyer says, “and we want to get as many people to those festivals as possible so they can all experience it.”

Murphy Khulusi looks beyond the launch. “To be able to see this newest generation getting more and more family members that are all usable together,” she says, “that’s what’s really exciting for me.”
