Iconic Monterey Pop Festival Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Meyer Sound
In June of 1967, a young John Meyer developed a custom amp for emerging blues rocker Steve Miller’s Monterey International Pop Festival performance. The festival launched the “Summer of Love,” an auspicious time when John Meyer not only met his future wife and business partner, Helen, but also realized that his passion for sound would be channeled into an exploding new market for high-level concert reinforcement. Meyer Sound was honored to the Official Sound Partner of the Monterey Pop 50th Anniversary festival June 16-18. John and Helen Meyer attended as they continue to celebrate their 50-year Sonic Love Story. We caught up with them as well as festival organizers of past and present and one of the legendary artists who performed in 1967 and at this summer’s 50th celebration.
