I think people have really felt a gap in the market for a high-power, high-performance point source loudspeaker, so it just made sense for us to meet that need with the ULTRA-X80.”

Meyer Sound’s ULTRA‑X80 made a monumental debut as the newest, most powerful member of the ULTRA family of point source loudspeakers at InfoComm 2024 in Las Vegas. The launch drew rave reviews from professional audio integrators, who praised the power, clarity, and compact design of ULTRA-X80.
“The initial reactions have been extraordinarily positive,” says John McMahon, senior vice president of Meyer Sound. “I think people have really felt a gap in the market for a high-power, high-performance point source loudspeaker, so it just made sense for us to meet that need with the ULTRA-X80. It’s exciting to see people get inspired by a loudspeaker that offers the same seamless sonic signature that they’ve come to appreciate with the ULTRA‑X20 and ULTRA‑X40 at a larger scale; there are just so many applications for it.”
Attendees experienced the ULTRA-X80 versatile point source loudspeaker’s exceptional capabilities firsthand, leaving many eager to incorporate it into their inventories. “My first impression of the ULTRA-X80 was, it was simply amazing,” says ALX Entertainment Group owner Alex Rodriguez. “The fact that you can get that clarity, all of the nuances, all of the detail, from a box this size — the power and punch, the low end — I’m blown away. I want a couple of these in my arsenal.”
“I’m really impressed with the X80 as far as the amount of overall low-end out of the box as well as the transient response: very fast, very quick,” says Alan Hart, owner of Production Services International. “I think it’s going to be the perfect box to compliment the PANTHER…I’m pretty excited about getting them in my inventory next year.”
“For its size, the power is incredible,” says Poindexter’s President Bill Costigan. “It offers typical Meyer Sound clarity, and I’m expecting it to last 20 to 30 years, like most Meyer products.”
“The power coming out of a box that size was pretty impressive, especially the low end,” adds Rob Allen, senior director of business development at Panavid Inc. “It was making me shake, and that shouldn’t happen with a box like that! What’s even more impressive is how the clarity continues to punch through at every level.”
ULTRA-X80 redefines what’s possible in point source loudspeaker technology. Based on the ULTRA family’s groundbreaking concentric-driver design, it combines two 12-inch neodymium-magnet cone drivers with a rotatable 95 x 40-degree waveguide coupled to a 4-inch high-frequency compression driver. This innovative configuration ensures smooth, consistent response and exceptional directional control.
Leveraging Meyer Sound’s ultralight Class D amplifier technology, ULTRA-X80 delivers a staggering 141 dB SPL peak output from a cabinet weighing just 130 lb (59 kg), making it the most powerful point source loudspeaker of its size on the market.
For even more focused coverage, an ULTRA-X82 variant offers a 50 x 40-degree dispersion pattern. Both models integrate seamlessly with the Meyer Sound ecosystem, offering analog and MILAN connectivity and leveraging the award-winning Nebra integrated software platform for unprecedented flexibility.
If early demand is any indication, ULTRA-X80 is poised to go the distance as an inventory staple for years to come. “One of our partners described this type of loudspeaker as becoming their bread and butter,” says McMahon, noting that ULTRA-X80 is ideal for a range of scenarios, from standalone solutions to replacing small line arrays in portable and installed applications from theaters to houses of worship to touring. “My favorite feedback at InfoComm was from a very prominent customer of ours who actually thanked us for making this product because there’s been no point source loudspeaker in the market that offered this level of performance and versatility until now.”
