CAL, ConstellationMeyer Sound was the only company to be recognized in two different categories at the inaugural InstallAwards held in June 2014 in London. Voted on by a panel of experts from across the AV industry, the awards were presented by Installation magazine.
Claiming the Best Project title in the Sports and Performing Arts category was the steerable CAL column array loudspeaker installation at the Golden Hall of Vienna’s Musikverein. The Golden Hall has been described by the New York Times as “a model of acoustic perfection” for classical concert halls around the world. Faced with myriad acoustic challenges, the project team used the CAL loudspeakers to cut through a long room reverberation time of two seconds and throw clear sound nearly 50m to the back of the hall. In addition, the team was able to preserve the architectural integrity of the historic venue by fitting the loudspeakers into a narrow space behind a grille.
Equipment supply and installation of CAL at Musikverein was handled by ATEC Pro Audio, while project specification was handled by Martin Laumann, audio engineer contracted by the Musikverein.
In the Education category, the Teamwork Award was given to Meyer Sound for the implementation of Constellation acoustic and sound reinforcement systems at the San Francisco Exploratorium’s Kanbar Forum. The collaboration involved theatrical design firm The Shalleck Collaborative, systems integrator BBI Engineering, and architects at EHDD.
