Sound Field Display

Sound Field Display

The sound field display shows the coverage a loudspeaker or system will provide in a venue. A multicolored graphical display illustrates sound pressure level through the venue at a specified frequency and bandwidth. A variety of viewing options enable users to look at predictions from both “macro” and “micro” points of view, yielding a well-rounded perspective on the performance of the proposed configuration.

This makes it easy to analyze loudspeaker interactions in the low frequencies or spot coverage holes at higher frequencies. Overall trends and localized phenomena can both be identified.

Since MAPP Online Pro’s calculations take only seconds, you can modify a configuration repeatedly until the configuration that gives the best coverage is determined.

MAPP Online Pro contains a virtual version of Meyer Sound’s SIM audio analyzer. By placing virtual microphones in the sound field it is possible to see frequency and impulse responses, band spectra, and SPL level at any location in the venue. When a microphone is moved, the frequency response is automatically updated, simplifying the identification of localized interactions.

In most cases, users want to predict how a proposed system configuration will perform in a specific venue. MAPP Online Pro provides features for defining the parameters of any venue, including separate activation and location of surfaces (walls, ceiling, or floor), choosing from a broad selection of surface types for each of those, and even adding in visual aids like balconies. MAPP Online Pro factors these parameters (except for visual aids) into its calculations, so that it accurately shows how primary surface reflections affect response.

With Virtual SIM, MAPP Online Pro the frequency response at any location can be viewed. Naturally, a user looking at a frequency response will want to figure out how the response could be flatted with equalization. MAPP Online Pro includes Virtual EQ taken from the Galileo loudspeaker management system, providing a visual aid to constructing an EQ curve for correcting response anomalies.

(Because loudspeaker responses are displayed in MAPP Online Pro at full output, the use of Virtual EQ in prediction calculations is limited.)
