"The UPJuniors are a great addition to our inventory of Meyer gear, because they're very compact, but still provide the outstanding sound and quality we've come to expect from working with Meyer's loudspeakers. We'll definitely be utilizing the UPJuniors quite a bit for future shows and events."

President, Luners Pro Sound & Lighting

This summer, over 8,000 residents and tourists packed downtown Santa Barbara for the Old Spanish Days Fiesta. First held over 75 years ago, the five-day festival celebrates the heritage and customs of the area's early settlers with pageants, markets, rodeo-style exhibits, and grand exhibitions of live music and a variety of traditional dance, including flamenco, ballet, and Mexican folklórico. Like the past few years, full production services of the festival were entrusted to Santa Barbara-based Luners Pro Sound & Lighting, who provided a Meyer Sound self-powered system that included the new UPJunior ultracompact VariO loudspeaker.

Having provided production services for 18 years, Luners President Grant Macgregor's decision on using UPJunior was an easy one. "Since all Meyer boxes are similarly voiced and blend quite well," says Macgregor. "We knew the UPJuniors would fit in perfectly even before we hooked them up."

The small footprint of UPJunior was especially appealing to Macgregor for this year's festival, as TV crews filming the dance events required clear sightlines up front. Using data from MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program, Macgregor was able to accurately predict the proper placement of two UPJunior cabinets at the stage lip for frontfill coverage.

"The UPJuniors are a great addition to our inventory of Meyer gear, because they're very compact, but still provide the outstanding sound and quality we've come to expect from working with Meyer's loudspeakers. We'll definitely be utilizing the UPJuniors quite a bit for future shows and events."

The remaining system was based around eight flown MICA compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers and two 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofers groundstacked per side. A Galileo loudspeaker management system linked with a wireless laptop provided support for all the system's processing needs.

Once again, the Meyer Sound system provided the exact mix of response, consistency, power, and flexibility that the crew at Luners was seeking. UPJunior was an excellent addition to the fold. "We've been using the UltraSeries and M Series for over four years. We're very happy with what they can do, and have never regretted the decision to switch over," concludes Macgregor.
