Meyer Sound's New UPQ-1P Loudspeaker, Awards in Sound Achievement and Architecture Share Top Billing at USITT
Meyer Sound's leadership in theatre technology will be demonstrated when USITT convenes in Houston on March 20-22. Making its American debut is the new self-powered UPQ-1P wide coverage loudspeaker, the company's latest product that is sure to find its place in theatrical productions and installations. Off the exhibit floor, company co-founders John and Helen Meyer will be presented with the Distinguished Achievement in Sound Award, while its Berkeley headquarters' Pearson Theatre will be honored with a USITT Architecture Merit Award. ![]() UPQ-1P Wide Coverage Loudspeaker Other loudspeakers at the Meyer Sound stand will include the recently introduced self-powered MM-4XP miniature loudspeaker, the UPJunior VariO loudspeaker, and the powerful yet petite M'elodie and M1D line array loudspeakers. Visitors can also witness the power of the Galileo loudspeaker management system and the extremely versatile Matrix3 audio show control system. Complete with SpaceMap multichannel surround panning and Wild Tracks hard disk playback, Matrix3 is a popular tool among the industry's leading sound designers and is used in numerous Cirque du Soleil® productions. ![]() MM-4XP Self-Powered Miniature Loudspeaker At an awards banquet on Saturday March 22, company co-founders John and Helen Meyer will be presented with the Distinguished Achievement Award. Since founding the company in 1979, the Meyers have been personally involved with the performing arts, which has driven the development of award-winning products used widely in Broadway musicals and sold-out themed spectacles worldwide. An example of this is the UPA loudspeaker, first released in 1980 and still sells in significant quantities today. ![]()
Sound designers and theater sound technicians who are looking to expand their understanding of theoretical concepts and "real world" implementation of audio principles will have the opportunity to attend Meyer Sound's seminars near USITT before the convention opens: Fundamentals of System Design, Implementation, and Optimization seminar on March 17-18 and MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program applications seminar on March 19. Additional details are available on www.meyersound.com/education. Participants of USITT events will witness Meyer Sound's leadership in sound technology at the official convention hotel, Hilton Americas, where more than 300 Meyer Sound UPM-1P loudspeakers are permanently installed, along with 30 M1D-Sub subwoofers. Other nearby venues in Houston installed with Meyer Sound systems include Church in the Heights, Pasadena High School and Sam Rayburn High School, as well as the Westfield High School, which relies on a Meyer Sound Constellation system to deliver a broad range of acoustic, classical and spoken word presentations.
