USC Trojans Open 2008 Home Season with a New Meyer Sound System at LA Coliseum

On September 13, USC fans will hear a brand-new Meyer Sound system at the Los Angeles Coliseum, delivering highly intelligible and powerful sound, as the Associated Press and USA Today's top-ranked Trojans kick off their first home game of the 2008 football season.

Provided by McCune Sound, the system highlights 12 of the brand-new SB-3F sound field synthesis loudspeakers augmenting two hangs of ten MILO line array loudspeakers on either side of the scoreboard. A dozen 700-HP subwoofers handle the low end with six subwoofers in each of the two main PA enclosures. In each enclosure the subwoofers are arranged in a formation that creates a cardioid dispersion pattern resulting in even low frequency coverage throughout the stadium. Several MSL-4 and UPA-2P loudspeakers cover side and downfill duties respectively.

With a seating capability of more than 92,000 people during regular season, the Coliseum is a challenging venue for system design due to its sheer size and the distance between the sound source and the farthest seats. The SB-3F was chosen for its ability to project sound at a phenomenal distance without any loss in intelligibility.

The Coliseum's SB-3F loudspeakers represent the first permanent installation of these new and powerful long-throw systems. They were used at the African stop on Céline Dion's Taking Chances world tour and at her recent benefit concert in Quebec, Canada.

The Los Angeles Coliseum is one of the oldest and largest stadiums in America; this major audio upgrade is the Coliseum's first since hosting the Olympics in 1984.
