"After listening to the MM-4s with and without the Meyer Sound UMS-1P ultra-compact subwoofers, Neil [Baxter] and the representative from JD Wetherspoon decided that it was perfect for the job."

- Roger Harpum,
Product Specialist, Autograph Sales

Meyer Sound's UK distributor Autograph Sales has recently supplied a number of MM-4 Miniature Wide-Range loudspeakers for a new bar/restaurant/club venue owned by national public house chain JD Wetherspoon, one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK.

The system was supplied and installed at the Quayside in Newcastle by SoundPower, a major UK sound, lighting and video installer specializing in the retail and leisure industry. SoundPower's director Neil Baxter approached Autograph Sales' product specialist Roger Harpum at PLASA 2002 in London to enquire about the MM-4.

"Neil had been asked to write the audio specification for JD Wetherspoon's 'Lloyds No. 1' brand, which has four different levels of specification," he says. "One of these levels had a need for an ultra-compact, yet high powered and high quality loudspeaker. After listening to the MM-4s with and without the Meyer Sound UMS-1P Ultra-Compact subwoofers, Neil and the representative from JD Wetherspoon decided that it was perfect for the job."

The Quayside installation features 14 MM-4s, two MM-4CEU Control Electronics Units and four UMS-1Ps. The installation is split into four zones, with the loudspeakers positioned in the pub's entrance and around the seating areas in the restaurant bar area. As the ceilings are low in these parts of the venue, the MM-4s, being diminutive 4-inch cubes, fitted the bill perfectly. The MM-4s provide peripheral reinforcement for a larger sound system used for popular music during opening hours. During the daytime music levels are quite subdued but by closing time their considerable 112.5 dB SPL (120 Hz – 18 kHz) is being put to full use.

SoundPower is so satisfied with the Meyer Sound MM-4s and the UMS-1Ps that these loudspeakers have now become part of JD Wetherspoon's specification for all venues of this type.
