UPJ-1P Honored with EDDY Award
The Meyer Sound UPJ-1P compact VariO loudspeaker has been selected to receive an EDDY award as Sound Product of the Year, according to the editors of Entertainment Design magazine.
In singling out the UPJ-1P for recognitions, the panel of judges, comprised of internationally renowned sound designers, commented that the new compact loudspeaker "fills in the gap between line arrays and single boxes" and "sounds very musical."
The EDDY awards will be formally presented during ceremonies scheduled for next June 18 in New York City, which coincide with the Broadway Sound Master Classes.
Introduced earlier this year, the UPJ-1P is a powerful yet compact self-powered loudspeaker incorporating a 10-inch low-mid driver and a 3-inch diaphragm (0.75-inch exit) compression driver mounted on a field-rotatable 50° x 80° horn. The rotatable horn, coupled with the UPJ-1P's various rigging options, provides unprecedented mounting, flying and arraying flexibility.
Now in their 12th year, the EDDY awards recognize the best in entertainment design and technology. The UPJ-1P was one of five products honored as Sound Product of the Year, and the only loudspeaker in the group. Other recipients were the Aviom personal monitor mixing system, the HME PRO850 wireless intercom, the Trantec S6000 wireless system and the Yamaha DM 1000 mixing console.
This is the third time in four years that a Meyer Sound product has received an EDDY award. The M1D ultra-compact and M2D compact curvilinear array loudspeakers tied as the Sound Product of the Year in 2003, and the UPM-2P ultra-compact narrow-coverage loudspeaker received the accolade in 2001.
